THE GREAT TRENT RIVER RAFT RACE - NEW BERN. NC

The Great Trent River Raft Race is back AGAIN!  In the 70’s and early 80’s there was an event…an event that drew thousands to the shore of the Trent River to watch a spectacle like no other.  Hundreds of participants built homemade rafts and raced in The Great Trent River Raft Race.

A couple of decades later the race is back!

June 2018 saw the successful return of the race to New Bern NC – Folks from all over the State grabbed their paddle boards, jumped on their kayaks, built paddle and pedal rafts and got together with friends for a fantastic day of fun on the water!  The great news is…we’re back – AGAIN for 2019! Join the fun.  Design It – Build It – Race It!

UNDER THE OAKS ARTS FESTIVAL - COROLLA, NC

The Under the Oaks Art Festival is a two day outdoor art show with a variety of Fine and Wildlife artists on the sweeping waterfront grounds of Historic Corolla Park at Whalehead.  One hundred year old Live Oaks, open green lawns and casual breezes from the Currituck Sound make for a perfect location. This festival features the unique talents of over 50 quality artists with a wide variety of media plus local food concessions, and a silent art auction that benefits Whalehead. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Whalehead was the 1920s residence of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Collings Knight, Jr., a 21,000-square-foot “mansion by the sea”. On Wednesday, June 19th, the event will feature a local wine and beer festival with live music from The Acoustic Legend, Chris Perkinson.  A big thank you goes out to our Presenting Sponsor – Corolla Light Resort.

Started in 1989, the Carthage Buggy Festival is a celebration of the rich history of Carthage, North Carolina. The Buggy Festival is held each year to commemorate the famous Tyson and Jones Buggy Factory that, from the mid-1800's to the 1920's, produced the carriages that were essential to life in rural North Carolina. On Saturday, May 11, 2019, the 31st Annual Carthage Buggy Festival will be held in Carthage, located eight miles north of Pinehurst in the Sandhills region of North Carolina, and it promises to be the biggest and best yet. With an annual attendance of approximately 20,000, the Buggy Festival has grown into one of the biggest and best known festivals in the region.

BRITISH CEMETERY MEMORIAL CEREMONY - OCRACOKE, NC

The 2019 British Cemetery ceremony is scheduled Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11a.m. with a reception immediately following at the Berkley Barn, 58 Water Plant Rd.  This marks the 76th commemoration of the four British World War II soldiers buried in the small plot of British land along British Cemetery Road. The ceremony, organized by the War Graves Committee on Hatteras, remembers the sinking by a German U-boat of the HMT Bedfordshire, a British trawler, off the coast of Ocracoke on May 11, 1942. For six months, the U-boat brigade torpedoed allied convoys off the Outer Banks.
 
Representatives from the British Royal Navy and Royal Canadian Navy will be in attendance, as well as members of the United States Coast Guard, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and students from Ocracoke School.

The Pilot Club of Darlington sponsors the South Carolina Sweet Potato Festival held the second Saturday of October each year.

More than 30,000 people gathered on the Public Square in Darlington during the 25th S.C. Sweet Potato Festival in 2007, and the event continues to be a success, raising funds for community projects including those that develop youth, provide service and education, and uplift families

More than 80 vendors attended the festival in 2007 with entertainment held on the stage beside the Darlington County Courthouse.

October 13-14, 2018

Don’t miss the 14th Annual Little River ShrimpFest, where approximately 25,000 members of our community and visitors gather to celebrate this local favorite. This year’s festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13th, 2018 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 14th, 2018 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Historic Little River Waterfront (4460 Mineola Ave, Little River, SC 29566).

 

Festival goers can expect to enjoy a children’s area, face painting, stilt walkers, balloon artists, 2 stages of live music, and approximately 150 different vendors- including a variety of art and craft vendors, business expos, and community organizations. Fresh local seafood will be served by the local waterfront restaurants and your festival food favorites will be available from a variety of talented food vendors.

Duck Jazz Festival - Duck, NC

october 6 – 7, 2018

The Town of Duck brings jazz to the Duck Town Park annually on Columbus Day weekend. We are looking forward to the 2018 Duck Jazz Festival, which will include a variety of jazz performers. The music begins Saturday evening, October 6, and continues Sunday, October 7, with a full day of performances on two stages. This event is non-ticketed and free to the public. Food and drinks will be available to purchase from town eateries and chairs will be available for rent. Attendees may also bring food, coolers, chairs, blankets and well-behaved dogs.  No beach umbrellas or tents are permitted at the event. The Duck Jazz Festival is held rain or shine. Each year we hope visitors extend their Outer Banks stay to enjoy jazz-themed events and promotions taking place throughout Duck businesses and beyond.
